In America, Atlas Isn’t Shrugging—He’s Building

By:  Michael K. Warne, AAMS®

This week, we celebrate the birth of our nation—249 years strong. It’s hard to wrap my mind around the fact that next year marks our 250th. I still remember, albeit faintly, the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Remember how oddly special it felt for awhile to find a “Bicentennial Quarter”? Simpler times….

Lately, as I’ve been reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, I’m reminded just how deeply this country is tied to the spirit of the individual builders and creators—the ones who push forward while everyone else clings to the past. She said in her book the “industrious, the thinkers, and those who create value are the driving force of history and society.”

Fast forward to today, and everywhere I turn, I hear the same tired narrative: “The era of American exceptionalism is over.” The Land of Opportunity? Some say that ship has sailed. Well, I’m here to tell you—I’m on the other side of that bet. In fact, I double down on it every time I show up to work and allocate capital in this great nation of ours.

Eighteen months ago, Tracy and I started Synergy Capital, built on 40 years of combined experience, hard-earned wisdom, and the belief that a revolution is quietly underway. Some would call this terrible timing. I would argue it’s perfect.

“How so?” you may ask. “Don’t you read the news?”

Yeah, I read the news…constantly, Tracy will tell you. And I also read history. I’ll agree that this point in our history doesn’t just feel like a rough patch for our country—it feels like we’ve stepped right into a Fourth Turning. These are the rare moments when old systems crack, new leaders rise, and the world we’ve known starts to look a whole lot different. These aren’t ordinary times. This is the season that tests us—and shapes what comes next.

But here’s the thing: revolutions aren’t just about chaos. Sometimes they’re about rediscovery and rebirth.

Let’s talk about why betting against America is still a losing hand.

Reason #1: Innovation
Artificial Intelligence is changing the world, and America is leading the charge. The U.S. has more AI data centers than any other country. China is close, the EU is in the race, but the big bets—real capital—are flowing into America’s big tech. We aren’t just participating in the AI revolution. We’re steering it.

Reason #2: Productivity
Productivity is in our DNA. I’ve seen it everywhere—from manufacturing floors to boardrooms to doctor appointments. This isn’t a country of idle dreamers. It’s a nation where people get up and build. Since 2014, U.S. productivity has jumped 17%, compared to a meager 5-6% in the eurozone and the UK. The proliferation of AI will only widen this gap. Americans work hard—and we work smart.

Reason #3: Capitalism’s Playground
The American middle class may be squeezed, but this country still produces more millionaires than the rest of the world combined. In fact, 40% of the world’s millionaires live here in the United States. More millionaires mean more capital, more spending, more investment, and more growth. This is capitalism at scale—messy, loud, and wildly effective.

Yes, America is imperfect. But that’s what makes her great. She’s a battleground of ideas, not just a museum of them. She’s where the ambitious come to test themselves against the limits of possibility, like two of my best friends did when they immigrated to this country to build one of the largest employers in Northern Colorado.

Betting against the U.S.? That’s a mistake history punishes.

And here’s the part that fires me up the most. At Synergy Capital, we’re not just along for the ride—we’re running flat out. We’ve left the old dinosaurs behind. The slow, bloated firms we used to work for can’t keep pace. We are the fast cats now—agile, hungry, and relentlessly focused on getting better every single day, for you. That’s not a bumper sticker for us at Synergy—it’s Kaizen. Continuous improvement is one of our core principles, and it’s baked into everything we do. We live it daily.

Like the builders in Atlas Shrugged, we don’t wait for permission to grow. We move fast, think sharp, and harness America’s strengths—innovation, productivity, and capital—to better serve our clients. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, we embrace our own, using our freedom not for ourselves, but to build better outcomes for the people who trust us with their capital and their financial future.
